Autumn Sage is crowned the new Miss Southern Ute for the year 2023-2024.

One singer from each drum group is selected to participate in the Powwow Drum Group Jalapeño Eating Contest. This event took place during the last afternoon session of the 63rd Annual Southern Ute Fair Powwow on Sunday, Sept. 10. Andele Badback (Catching Eagle) and Vernell Capitan (Elk River) stand side by side during the competition, doing their best to eat five jalapeños for the “winner-take-all" cash prize.
Vernell Capitan was announced as the Grand Champion of the Powwow Drum Group Jalapeño Eating Contest, Capitan is pictured with newly crowned Little Miss Southern Ute, Shayne White Thunder, Jr. Miss Southern Ute, Maleina Carel, and Superintendent Robert L. Ortiz.

The 63rd Annual Southern Ute Tribal Fair Powwow was held Friday, Sept. 8 through Sunday, Sept. 10 at the Sky Ute Fairgrounds. The Southern Ute Tribal Council and Southern Ute Powwow Committee kicked off the event with a welcoming address to all guests. Dancers, singers, and fair attendees who gathered for the three-day celebration enjoyed competition dancing, singing, and a variety of vendors.
