IHS wins third straight, 46-20 at Sargent
Recording their third consecutive win to close out the year, Ignacio’s Lady Bobcats traveled Friday, Dec. 15, to Sargent and blighted the underclassman-heavy Lady Farmers 46-20 – the fewest points scored against IHS yet this winter.
Energized by the previous night’s thrilling 35-30 home win over former 2A/1A San Juan Basin League rival Mancos, the Lady ’Cats (4-3 overall, 0-0 3A/4A Intermountain) notched their second win in three tries against 2A/3A Southern Peaks opposition, having previously won at Del Norte on the 9th after a home loss to Sanford the evening before.
“Our team has no quit in them. At all,” Ignacio head coach Trae Seibel had said after the victory over MHS. “They want to fight to win, but now we’re just putting those little things together and getting them to realize that … when our guards are going downhill, our post players are crashing the boards, our help defense is good … it puts together a win.”
Statistics for the Lady Bobcats had not been fully tabulated and reported as of press time.
Freshmen Kandace Pargin and Makenzie Consaul paced SHS with five points each, while senior Bailey Asbell and freshman Tami Torgler each scored four and freshman Kimmy Pargin two as the Lady Farmers (2-3 overall) dropped their third straight prior to resuming play in 2024 at home versus 1A SPL member San Luis Centennial on Friday, Jan. 5.
IHS, meanwhile, will next see action on the 6th at Monte Vista, with the Lady Pirates standing 5-1 overall after closing out ’23 winning 44-22 Tuesday, December 19, at 3A IMLers Bayfield. The Lady ’Cats will then get into their IML work hosting 4A-level members Alamosa and Pagosa Springs on the 12th and 13th, respectively.
“I hope they carry in,” said Seibel, “that they’ve got to fight every single time they step on the court.”
