Building Maintenance Carpenter, Les John works to smooth out freshly poured concrete for a brand-new shade structure being built on the Bear Dance grounds on Tuesday, May 9, just a few weeks before the annual celebration is set to begin. Each year Building Maintenance employees head to the Bear Dance grounds to perform maintenance on shade structures, concession stands, and the Bear Dance corral.
With Bear Dance around the corner, Building Maintenance Technician, Gabe Archuleta helped to replace the old and rotting support poles within the corral as part of preparation for the annual spring celebration. The area now features new shade structures for Grounds Maintenance employees, law enforcement personnel, and new picnic tables for attendees.
Before completing the drying process, the Building Maintenance crew works to add finishing touches to what will be a brand-new shade structure for the Bear Dance feast area. This will provide a permanent structure for the feast, which occurs every year on the last day of Bear Dance.
