Tribal Fair: Rodeo and Horsemanship
The Southern Ute Indian Tribe has been an equestrian Indigenous nation since the introduction of horses into the Southwest. As with many reservations, horses were traded, raided, bought, and sold by the Utes early on. A vast majority of our reservation land is comprised of forest and agricultural land. We are very proud to have some of the finest farmers and ranchers in the region residing right here in Ignacio.
This edition of The Southern Ute Drum newspaper celebrates our Ute heritage and the history of horsemanship over the years. The 100th annual Southern Ute Tribal Fair will highlight a two-day rodeo from Friday, Sept. 16 through Saturday, Sept. 17. As with all our cultural events, attendance and participation only makes us stronger.
