Uncompahgre Powwow graces Montrose

The inaugural Uncompahgre Powwow was held at the Centennial Middle School gymnasium in Montrose, Colo., Saturday, Sept. 21. The powwow was hosted by the Western Slope Native American Resource Center and the Ute Indian Museum. Afrem Wall, Ute Mountain Ute Tribal member was the MC for the event with Justin “Bear” Lang Ute Mountain Ute Tribal member selected as the Arena Director for the powwow. Tribal Veterans, Royalty and dancers from the Ute Mountain Ute, Ute Indian and Southern Ute Tribes filled the gymnasium for the first Grand Entry on Saturday afternoon. Next year the Ute Indian Museum will be hosting the powwow at the Montrose High School.
