Pearl Casias was invited to speak at the event to share her experiences growing up with strong women, and how hard her mother had worked to take care of Pearl and her brother. Casias also talked about the importance of having matriarchs in households to help support the family. Casias’s daughter, Bertha Box, stood next to Pearl Casias in support of her mother.

Motherhood is Sacred Walk, which took place on Tribal Campus, invited tribal employees, members of the three sister tribes, and the community to partake in the walk to celebrate. Social Services held an Open House after the walk to meet their new staff members. Refreshments were provided and roses were given to mothers who attended the walk.

On Wednesday, May 22, the Division of Social Services held the Motherhood is Sacred Walk “Honoring our Matriarchs” at the Mouache-Capote Building. Marvina Olguin, hugging her son Vince Naranjo, watches on as Cyrus Naranjo thanks her for taking care of him and his brother Vince as they grew up. Both Cyrus and Vince express the importance of motherhood and how much they appreciate their mother, Marvina.

Chairman Melvin J. Baker, along with other lucky attendees had been selected in a raffle and won a special prize! Chairman Baker, along with Tribal Council members Marty Pinnecoose, Vanessa Torres, and Marge Barry attended the event.
